Top tips from Khadija Beauty

Khadija, from the beauty, makeup, and lifestyle blog Khadija Beauty, is full of wonderful advice for those looking to take their skincare knowledge to the next level, and she kindly shared three of her top tips with us for perfecting your daily skincare routine. Touching on both sun and hydration, Khadija advises:

“1. Use sunscreen every single day. No matter what season it is and no matter if you are staying at home or going out.

2. Try to drink at least three litres of water per day.

3. Give your skin extra hydration before going to bed. Our skin repairs faster at night hence we need to feed our skin with extra hydration and the right supplements.”

Find out your skin type and clean appropriately

One of the fastest ways to develop the perfect skincare routine is to identify your personal skin type. Whether you have dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, sensitive skin, or balanced skin, understanding your skin’s needs is vital if you are going to assemble the right routine for you.

For example, cleansing dry skin requires a gentler approach than normal/combination complexions. For those with dry skin, try and use a cleanser without any fragrances and refrain from using hot water. However, if you have oily skin, rinse with plenty of warm water and use an oil-free foaming cleanser. Learn about your skin type and then find the skincare approach that works for you.

Treat acne correctly

When it comes to acne, treating it with care is very important. Refrain from popping pimples as you can end up with infections and scars. Utilise products designed to fight acne such as lotions, gels, and creams, but don’t use too often as you will be in danger of irritating your skin. These products don’t work instantly so remember to be patient. If your complexion makes you feel self-conscious, consider adding a concealer to your routine that treats as well as masks – something containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid will do the job.

Always moisturise

Wrinkles and fine lines may not yet be a concern, but you’re never too young to moisturise, especially if you suffer from oily or dry skin. Every skin type will reap great benefits from moisturising on a daily basis. So, if you’re current skincare routine is missing this key component, it’s time to adjust. After washing or rinsing your skin, apply a moisturiser to seal in that rejuvenating moisture. For those who have oily skin, you will want to find a moisturiser that doesn’t block your pores, so implement a product into your routine that is both lightweight and oil-free.

Sun cream is your friend

As Khadija previously mentioned, sun damage is one of the biggest causes of premature ageing, making SPF a vital component of any daily skincare routine. Find a daily sun cream that works for your skin type and layer it over your skincare before make up application or just as the last step in your routine if you prefer going fresh faced. For those who prefer a faff-free method, a moisturiser that contains SPF is a great place to start, although it won’t offer as much protection.  Remember to apply rain or shine, UV rays can take their toll at any time, it’s much better to be prepared and protect your skin every day.

Remember to cleanse

Cleansing is, of course, the first component of any effective skincare routine. Whether you choose a micellar, mousse or cream cleanser, washing away the day’s dirt is a must for healthy skin. If you live in areas with high pollution such as city centres, consider following your cleansing step with an exfoliator but be careful not to overdo it, as used too often this can dry your skin out. Washing your face once a day will be just fine for most people but aiming for a rinse in the morning (drying with a soft towel) and then undergoing a more thorough cleanse at night, is the optimal approach. If you are a very active person, cleansing after exercise will be a great addition to your routine to stop perspiration from clogging up pores and irritating acne.

Choose the correct makeup and skincare products

Finally, all those who are dedicated to the cause of perfecting their daily skincare routine will need to make sure they are choosing the correct makeup. For those that wear makeup, using products that are less likely to cause acne and block pores will be important – look for labels such as ‘nonacnegenic’, for example – and going for water-based and not oil-based products will help as well.

When it comes to skincare products, Champneys skincare is handmade in the UK and utilises natural ingredients to make sure your skin is well looked after. Containing soothing rose oil, fresh lavender, and also being paraben-free, this day and night collection will be a great addition to your skincare line up, an excellent complement to the effects of a rejuvenating spa break, and will go a long way in helping you perfect your daily skincare routine.
